  • A home-owner can be confronted by a bewildering variety of building related disputes.
  • The construction of new homes is regulated by the Housing Consumers Protection Measures Act, 1998.
  • Extensions and refurbishments are governed by agreement between the client and the builder/contractor.
  • Contractors often complain that they have difficulty in recovering payment from the home-owner, even if the work is only incomplete in immaterial respects.
  • Home-owners on the other hand complain that they have paid the entire contact amount, only to discover that the contractor has materially defaulted or fails to attend to the final outstanding aspects.
